REACH OUT

Joining the new host of FMF today, Kate Motuang. A community of bloggers write from a one-word topic for 5 minutes. We writing teachers call it a “writing prompt”.

REACH OUT

Reach out and touch somebody’s hand

Make this world a better place if you can.

This 1970 hit by Diana Ross came to mind first for today’s word, reach.

Reach by itself reminds me of trying to reach a goal, a mountaintop, a place.

But Reach out is personal,

connecting,

giving and receiving,

community.

The life of following Jesus is about touching and reaching. The story of Jesus’ ministry in the gospels is filled with the ways he reached out to the poor, the sick, the mentally ill, the despised, His actions often confused His followers. How could the Messiah reach out, touch the poorest and marginalized of the community? The Messiah was to be their king, the one who would save them from their oppression. But that’s exactly what He did, over and over.Cross 2.compessed

I thank God for the cross and the example of our Savior who reached out to the unloveable of His world.
